We are concerned citizens and organizations that have joined together in opposition to the proposed expansion into the south parcel near the DuPont Gravel Mine. Why? Because of the environmental devastation that dewatering (removing the water from) the Vashon Aquifer would bring to Sequalitchew Creek, Edmond Marsh and our Puget Sound Nearshore. The water table will be permanently effected and so will our drinking water system. If we screw up our drinking water in DuPont, we have no where else to get it.
We DO NOT OPPOSE the mine, we oppose dewatering and what it will do to public supply drinking water wells, Sequalitchew Creek, Edmond Marsh, and the Puget Sound Nearshore.
Cal Portland has publicly stated that they cannot mine in the south parcel unless they dewater. Then, they should find somewhere else to extract gravel.
