Citizens and organizations opposed to mining into and dewatering the Vashon Aquifer at Cal Portland's mine in DuPont, Washington. We are concerned about the adverse effects on the surrounding environment and our public supply drinking water wells.

“If we don’t dewater, then we don’t mine in the expansion area.”
This video is from the DuPont City Council Meeting on November 10, 2009. Listen to this excerpt (at the end) to hear Pete Stoltz with CalPortland (then Glacier NW) explain that if they cannot dewater the Vashon Aquifer in the current mine footprint and south expansion parcel, then they cannot mine in the south expansion parcel.
Why should dewatering be allowed? It will cause significant, adverse, permanent damage (impacts) to our entire watershed including Sequalitchew Creek, Edmond Marsh a Class I Wetland.
